Dino Real is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Costa Rica. He graduated from the
Maryland Institute College of Art in 2012. In 2017 he got a postgraduate in Art for social inclusion from the University of Barcelona Dino has lived in Vancouver, Baltimore, New
Orleans and Barcelona. He has traveled extensively around North America and Europe and uses his travel-time
as a means to build community around the world.

Dino’s work is a bold combination of ritual + performance, costumes, installation and painting.
He is the creator of the performance troop Cofradía Real (Krewe of Real) in Costa Rica!

His interests delve mostly in anything creative, esoteric and celebratory. This includes:
embodying self-created archetypes, making wearable art, activating indoor and outdoor
spaces, collaborating on editorial photo-shoots, organizing happenings at events and creating
parades. He is also passionate about reading the tarot and hosting fellow like-minds from
around the globe wherever he is based.

Dino currently lives in Costa Rica working and continues to colaborate with other contemporaries during his time here and his travels.

Artist Statement:

Through multi-chromatic painting, sacredness, performative connections, the carnivalesque,
bodily pleasures, regalia, humor and a playful yet tribal approach, I am able to communicate.
My practice highlights a fluid synergy of different artistic domains, where the individual media
discourses of each combine for a greater purpose: subverting the mundane.

My work also provides an intentional platform for people to access their own occult and
ceremonial tendencies, metamorphic comfort-zones, and reclaiming of self through vestment
rituals, processions, collective motivation, relational aesthetics and site-specific tableaus.

             I have a deliberate intention to question taboos, activate freedom of expression, and dismantle
established social norms by presenting magical characters that are somewhat weird, yet
attractive, or that could be seen as either monsters or deities. These presences shape-shift in
multiple contexts that blur the limits between real and fantasy, beauty and bizarre.

When one dresses in costume, one enters a ritualistic space where alternative forms of self are
allowed to surface. The ordinary is overturned when one explores oneself as an alternative
persona/entity/figure. I strive to facilitate this discovery for others, mobilizing them to protrude
and take ownership of new ways of self-expression.

The liberation of the human spirit breaks apart unintentional, oppressive and constraining
forms of thought, making room for the constant process of self-emancipation. Transforming the
self with others, and the occupied surroundings into a higher potential form, is akin to my

En el 2017 obtiene un Postgrado en Arte para la Inclusión Social de la Universidad de Barcelona. Dino ha vivido en Vancouver, Baltimore, Nueva Orleans y Barcelona. Él ha viajado extensivamente por Norte America y Europa.  Él ama viajar y utiliza el viaje como un medio para construir comunidad al rededor del mundo.

Su trabajo es una combinación entre el ritual + performance, vestuario, instalación y pintura. Dino es creador y mente detrás de la Cofradía Real de Costa Rica.

Sus intereses se profundizan más que todo en lo creativo, esotérico y celebrado inlcuyendo: encarnar arquetipos con vestuario, fabricar obras de arte para ponerse, elaborar activaciónes, instalaciónes y murales, dirigir, colaborar y modelar en sesiones de fotos editoriales, ser promotor y anfitrión de fiestas y eventos, colaborar en “happenings” y pasacalles, leer cartas de oráculo y tarot y servir de guía y anfitrión en para artistas de alrededor del mundo donde se encuentra.

Actualmente vive y trabaja en Costa Rica, y colabora con demás artistas contemporáneos en sus viajes.
